KYUEM Graduates Heading for top ranking universities in UK
Over 92% of this year’s graduating batch from Kolej Yayasan UEM, or KYUEM, one of Malaysia’s finest pre-university colleges, are heading for the top-ranking universities in the United Kingdom including the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.
They were among a total of 219 students, received their completion of studies certificates in a graduation ceremony on 20 June 2009 that was graced by the Guest-of-Honour, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Muda Perak Darul Ridzuan Raja Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah.
Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Muda Perak Darul Ridzuan Raja Nazrin Shah who was accompanied by Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Puan Besar Perak Darul Ridzuan Tuanku Zara Salim also presented the Special Awards to this year’s graduates at KYUEM’s Great Hall in Lembah Beringin, Selangor Darul Ehsan.
During the awards ceremony, the Subject Awards were presented to top students for each of the subjects. The recipients are Ariff Ismail (Accounting), Afiqah Abdul Aziz (Biology and Information & Communications Technology), Michelle Lim Ai-Ling (Chemistry), Ashraf Zakwan Abdullah Zawawi (Computing), Zafirah Adrus (Economics), Mohamad Ikmal Ahmad Nordin (English Language), Shahira Mohd Afzal (English Literature), Lim Kheng Tai (Further Mathematics), Attiyaa Zuhaimy (History), Siti Fatimah Mukhtar (Islamic Studies), Mohd Ariff Mohd Daud (Malaysian Studies), Sarah Hanna Abdul Manap (Mathematics), Christina Lim Hsiao Wen (Moral Studies), Jevendra Naidu Ragubathy (Physics) and Adrian Koay Terr Huay (Psychology).
Five other outstanding graduates were also presented with the Special Awards. They are Zatesa Mohamed Aznam and Abdullah Zubair Mohd. Razali for the Female and Male Sports and Co-Curricular Awards followed by the Mohamad Ikmal Ahmad Nordin and Michelle Lim Ai-Ling for the Academic Excellence Awards in Arts and Science, respectively and the Scholar of the Year Award went to Aainaa Kamila Baharuddin.
As for the Duke of Edinburgh International Aawrd for Young People for June 2009, forty-eight students received the Bronze Medallions while eight others were awarded the Silver Medallions.
The Royal Life Saving Awards for April 2009 saw three recipients of the Instructor’s Awards and eleven others were awarded the Royal Life saving Society Bronze Medallion.
Witnessing the award ceremony today were UEM Group Chiarman Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Kolej Yayasan UEM Ahmad Zakie Ahmad Shariff, Board of Governors Chairman, Dato' Seri Abdul Shukor Abdullah, Board of Trustees of Yayasan UEM Roslan bin Abdul Razak and KYUEM Headmaster, Neil Sutherland.
Earlier in the ceremony, Tan Sri Dr. Ahmad Tajuddin said that KYUEM has done very well in producing students of very high caliber that will add to the future local “talent pool” to help bring Malaysia on par with other developed countries globally.
Tan Sri Dr. Ahmad Tajuddin congratulated the graduands for not only successfully migrating to an international system of education but also performing remarkably well under those circumstances. Even so, as Tan Sri Dr. Ahmad Tajuddin stressed, there must be further efforts to not only improve on the academic grades but also on the total educational experience at the College, so that its students are very well-rounded and stand out when they are out there in the universities and in the marketplace.
“There is so much that cannot be given to you: the courage to do right as you see it, the will never to compromise what you know to be true, the determination to know yourself and to live up to your best self. Be brave, be strong – it’s a big, exciting world out there. Go, stun them with your abilities,” he advised.
Kolej Yayasan UEM has to date accomplished eleven years of excellence in providing top quality pre-university education. While the college is widely recognised for producing top grades in the Cambridge International A-Level Examinations, it is also noted for providing students with professional counseling and guidance towards achieving final placements at top-ranking universities in the United Kingdom.
The college has been successful in preparing and placing students to read Accountancy, Economics, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Law, Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, Information Technology, Architecture and Bio-Technology at university level.
